DIY Galaxy Heels

Finally my Internet has turned over and I am able to post the long ago DIY Galaxy Heel tutorial! For this look I was inspired by Jeffrey Campbell's Cosmic Litas but decided they were far to boring (and a little pricey!) So I found a pair of Jeffrey Campbell look-alikes at Number One Shoes and brought some handy dandy things at various stores and slap dash there you have it!

 My own Galaxy Boots!

So enough about me, more about you! down below are instructions to recreate these boots or just DIY tips to take with you..

What you'll need:

-Black Shoes! (Pref with leather or synthetic outer)
*the black background creates the 'dark, spacey, obis look'
-Spray paints! ($3 at Geoff's Emporium in various colours and metallic gold and/or silver)
-Star studs (available for about 20cents each at Geoff's)
-Tape (for masking off areas, make sure it can be easily removed without scaring shoe surface)
-Spray paint protector if available

NOTE - glitter, circle studs and diamantes NOT used

*GET TO IT*

ONE cover.
Tape off desired part of shoes. I taped the lace-up edge, heel, sole and under side of shoes (for a clean finish).

TWO paint.
Start with your base colours and finishing with metallics.
The trick with the spraying is to spray from half an arms length from the shoe, this will create a light misting of colour and you'll avoid those nasty 'solid' looking blotches.
To achieve the 'splatter' effect push gently on the spray can button, this will restrain the pressure and it will give a half-ass splutter of paint.

*Make sure to practise your skills on paper before having at the shoes.

*I think its nice to leave a faint trace of black in the background so they still look spacey.
THREE protect.
Once you're happy with the paint job this would be the time to apply a top coat of spray paint protector or shoe protector.

FOUR peel.
This is the fun part where you get to peel off the tape and admire your well contained and professional looking paint job.

FIVE finishing touches
Time to add your star studs, simply and carefully push the studs through the material and use pliers or something hard to flatten down the backs!

NOTE- I'm thinking of adding spikes to mine but couldn't find any before doing this tutorial.

And your done!

Hope you enjoy your snazzy shoes, I know I do :D
